Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.  The children have many opportunities to develop their independence and confidence through a range of activities as part of the curriculum and a multitude of extra-curricular activities.  The children participate in outdoor activities such as Forest School and representing the School in sports fixtures, where they will develop their leadership and teamwork skills.  The Creative Curriculum incorporates History, Geography and Religious Education.  This allows breadth of knowledge and understanding to support their studies on topics such as the Terrible Tudors. This topic involves a fascinating insight into Tudor life including medicinal cures, feasts and an opportunity to dress up for the day at Burghley House.

During the Spring and Summer Terms we go further back in time to the Jurassic and Roman periods.  These topics include finding out about the Neolithic site of Skara Brae in Scotland and handling Roman artefacts.   

Children are encouraged to develop their confidence and creativity through a variety of performing arts events throughout the year.  Year 3 children take the leading roles in our Christmas production as well as participating in other key events such as The Peterborough School Musical, Harvest Festival, the ‘Off by Heart’ competition, Dance and Film Festivals and the Prep School’s annual Arts event, ‘Create’.

In addition to the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, the children learn Spanish, Music and Physical Education which are taught by specialist teachers.  In Year 3 the children gain confidence in their computing skills through using a range of programs and software.  Ipads are used to enhance and enrich their education.
