Enrichment Programme

Enrichment Programme

Every week, in tutorial sessions and in one dedicated teaching period, Sixth Formers have PSHEE lessons to broaden their curriculum and allow them to consider and discuss issues relating to their personal and social development. A broad range of topics is covered, aiming to give education for life. Sessions include politics, current affairs, philosophy, citizenship, general science, sociology, law, cultural studies and environmental studies. There is a detailed programme of study skills to enable individuals to maximise their personal performance. Health issues such as drug and alcohol awareness and sexual health are discussed. Speakers are often invited to these sessions to offer students a broader perspective. A programme of careers is covered during these sessions.

Students have the opportunity to study for an AS in Critical Thinking which is offered as part of the enrichment programme. The units studied focus on ‘Credibility of Evidence’ and ‘Assessing and Developing Argument’ which allow students to develop the skills of communication, problem solving, analysis and evaluation. Please visit the Critical Thinking page in the Curriculum section for more information.

Students also have the opportunity to study for an AS in General Studies, which is offered as part of the enrichment programme. The course encourages thinking across specialist subjects in terms of two themes: Conflict and Space. Please go to the relevant page in the Curriculum section for more information.

It is envisaged that all students will opt to study the additional AS in Critical Thinking or General Studies.Sixth Form student
