History is a very popular subject in the Senior School and is currently thriving. In Years 7, 8 and 9 we follow the National Curriculum for the most part with a particular focus on British History from the Middle Ages to the present day, although we also examine how great developments in European and World History have impacted upon Britain as well as Britain’s part in creating the modern world. Lessons are lively and interactive and we encourage debate along with higher level thinking.
Many students in Year 9 each year opt to study the subject at GCSE Level where the focus is very much on 20th century and Modern World History. Topics include The USA 1919 – 1941, The Cold War and Nazi Germany whilst there is also a depth study of Britain in the Edwardian period. Our GCSE results are excellent and the subject remains popular at A Level.
